Most frequent questions and answers
The goal of our study is to understand visual processing in individuals who have been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. By studying basic visual processing, we hope to understand more about what brain functions might be affected.
We are currently recruiting individuals with schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, schizophreniform disorder, or bipolar disorder. We are also recruiting individuals with no history of mental illness. In order to be eligible, you must be between the age of 18-60.
First, we will ask you to complete a quick interview over the phone to determine if you are eligible. If so, you will be asked to come in for an interview about your mental health and to fill out some questionnaires, which takes about 2-3 hours. If you meet our eligibility criteria, you will be invited to participate in one or two sessions:
- Session 1: Performing tasks on the computer and completing a short interview about how you have been doing over the past month. This session takes about 2-3 hours.
- Session 2 (optional): An MRI scan. This will involve you lying on your back while the MRI machine takes pictures of your brain. This visit takes about 2 hours.
Yes! You will be compensated for your time at $20/hour.
The study takes place at the Departments of Psychology and Radiology on the MSU campus. We will reimburse you for your transportation costs.
